While still close to
home in July and August, 2020, I painted subjects from nearby Ozark–St. Francis
National Forest. Blanchard Springs Caverns in Mountain View, AR are an
alive and active, wonder-filled place to observe the timeless power of flowing
water, to be humbled by naturally occurring rock formations, and to experience
our Creator. A place to rest, to feel centered and calm. A year round spring
gushes from the base of the mountain called Blanchard Springs also home to the
caverns. The spring is known as the headwaters for beautiful Mill Creek, which
with the help of underground springs, creates Mirror Lake. Surging over a
man-made dam it results in a spectacular waterfall. An arched stone bridge
built by the CCC around 1941 spans Mill Creek. Info: EncyclopediaofArkansas.net
Closer still, bees buzzed flowers in my garden while I was
reminded of traveling and seeing them growing wild along roadsides. Black
Eyed Susans and Purple Coneflowers, also known as Echinacea - an
herbal remedy, are perennial favorites of mine, reminders of sunny, Midwest
summers.
